HIGH WATER ADVISORY — COBB ISLAND

Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS is reminding our community to use extra caution as rainfall and high tides may create hazardous driving conditions along Route 254/Cobb Island Road.

Flooding in low-lying areas can develop quickly and may continue to change throughout the day. Even when the roadway appears passable, water can cover hazards that are impossible to see from inside a vehicle.

A few important reminders:

• Plan ahead if you need to travel on or off the island.
• Allow extra time and avoid unnecessary trips when conditions are poor.
• Never drive around barricades or road-closure signs.
• Do not assume a large vehicle can safely cross floodwater.
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to see standing water and roadway damage.
• If you encounter flooding, turn around and find a safe alternative rather than taking a chance.
• Keep an eye on changing weather and local emergency notifications.

For everyone who lives, works, or travels through Cobb Island, please look out for one another. A few extra minutes of caution can prevent a dangerous situation and help keep our emergency crews from having to respond to avoidable incidents.

If you see someone attempting to travel through dangerous floodwater, encourage them to turn around.
