Over the past two weeks, Cobb Island VFD members—both new and experienced—put in solid hands-on work during our vehicle rescue and fire suppression drills.
Week One: Crews focused on vehicle extrication techniques, covering everything from scene safety and stabilization to door and roof removal using hydraulic tools. It was a great opportunity for our younger members to get reps in alongside seasoned firefighters, building teamwork and sharpening lifesaving skills.
Week Two: We turned up the heat with a live car fire evolution. Firefighters suited up in full PPE and SCBA to practice key tactics like fire attack, nozzle control, and vehicle fire behavior. These scenarios help reinforce decision-making and safety in real-world conditions where vehicle fires can escalate fast.
