It is going to be EXTREMELY cold today and into the weekend. Please be prepared. Please use caution when heating your home. Make sure space heaters have ample space and are plugged directly into wall outlets, not extension cords. This weather system is also anticipated to bring strong winds, which can lead to power outages. During power outages, if you are using candles, ensure they are away from things that can burn and do not leave them unattended. If using portable generators ensure they are at least 20 feet away from your home and not near any doors or windows. Please ensure you have working Smoke Detectors in your home. At least one on every floor.

To report an outage, please contact SMECO….

Call our automated system at (877)-747-6326 ((877) 74-SMECO) to report an outage. If you spot a downed power line, consider it energized and dangerous. Please stay clear of any downed lines, and call SMECO immediately at (888) 440-3311.

You can also report outages and view area outages through SMECO’s website below.

Prepare now for power outages during extreme low temperatures.
-Secure outdoor holiday decorations
-Don't forget to bring in your pets!
-Limit your time outside - the cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
-Be sure to heat your home safely and install carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of your home.
-Be sure that all outside water faucets are turned off and outside garden hoses are disconnected and drained.
-Be sure all crawl space vents are closed.
