Today In recognition of his heroic actions on October 4, 2019, Firefighter Douglas Hands was awarded the: Maryland Transportation Authority Police Life Saving Award.

On October 4, 2019 Firefighter Doug Hands was traveling to King George for work in the passenger seat of a work truck. They came upon what appeared to be a broken down car in the same lane of travel ahead of him. As he was going around the vehicle he saw a female over by the jersey wall. He then saw her start to put a leg over the wall and told his driver to stop, at which point Doug jumped out of the truck and ran towards the female. By the time he got to where she was, she was actively getting herself over the wall to jump. Doug grabbed her, pulled her down, told her ‘not today’ and had his co-worker call 911. He stayed with her (keeping a hand on her) until the police arrived.

Job well done FF Hands!
