Recruitment and Retention

 

New Applicants:

Any person, fourteen (14) years of age or older, may become a member of this Department. The individual must submit an application, to the membership Committee, at least two (2) weeks prior to the regular monthly meeting. The Membership Committee shall review, and present the application to the Membership at the regular monthly meeting with a recommendation. At this time, the Membership shall vote on accepting, or rejecting the application. If the application is accepted, the individual shall be placed on probation for a period of one (1) year. During this probationary period, the individual shall meet with the Operational Chief(s) of the Fire and/or EMS Division(s), to inquire about requirements for membership. At the end of the probationary period, the Membership Committee shall process the application, and prepare a written recommendation for the Membership. The application must then be voted on, and approved by a two-thirds (2/3) majority of the qualified voting members in attendance.

Types of Membership: 

     *Cadet Member
     *Probationary Member
     *Junior Member
     *Fire Division Operational Member
     *EMS Division Operational Member
     *Administrative

 Recruitment:

Requirements for Cadet/Operational/Administrative membership are as follows:

     1. A minimum of 14 years old. 
     2. If attending school must obtain a work permit.
     3. If you have a valid Maryland drivers license you must obtain a driving record 
        through the Maryland Motor Vehicle 
Administration.
     4. A will to serve the citizens of Charles County.
     5. Attendance at Thursday night drills and business meetings.

To become a member, you do not need any previous experience; all training will be provided for free.

  Retention:

As becoming a volunteer member of a fire department you receive several benefits.
