The Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant in September 2017 for the amount of $217,715.00 to replace our current Cascade Fill Station, 30 SCOTT 5.5 SCBA Packs with 60 cylinders and 35 AV3000HT Face mask. This grant will allow the CIVFD to outfit all of our current apparatus with new state of the art breathing apparatus. Currently we have received all the equipment purchased from the grant.

The Chief Officers of the department developed a training plan to ensure all of our members are trained on the new SCBA, and that they are all trained to the same level. The first phase of our training plan was to train the trainers. We held a class to teach the approved training method and information to the Fire and EMS officers of the department. The second phase of the training was to start training the operational members. The training consists of a PowerPoint presentation on the new SCBA and a series of hands on practical evolutions.

On April 19, 2017 we held our first training session for our operational members. On the first night of training we had 40 plus operational members attend the training. This is at least 2/3 or our operational membership. It was a great turnout.

The new SCBA will be placed in service as soon as we have successfully trained all of our operational membership.
